New Years Resolutions

January 6th, 2009

They say the best way to accomplish a large task (like build a company) is to break it down into tiny manageable steps (like buy domain name for said company). This also applies to estimating the costs or length of a project. There’s no way to tell how long it’ll take you to write a CRM (”I can do it in 3-6 weeks,” says overconfident developer), but you should know how long it’ll take to come up with the database schema for the customer table. So for new years resolutions, I’ve come up with the following small goals:

  • Archive all the emails in my inbox and automatically label all unanswered emails that are more than 7 days old as “this is how much of a delinquent procrastinator i am (4 messages).”
  • Sign off of Gmail once a day in an effort to increase productivity and reduce chat/email time.
